Micromobility nyc, 2025:

2025 has been another eventful year in the fight for better streets in New York City. We replaced our Mayor with a supportive one, and congestion pricing finally started. However, rising bike backlash combined with a culture war coming from Washington that targeted everything that might provide an alternative to the dominance of cars and the oil industry threatened multiple projects.

-MISER

#20 - HOCUL COMES OUT GUNS BLAZING IN DEFENSE OF CONGESTION PRICING

In a complete reversal, Kathy dedided to find her spine on congestion pricing. This presser kicked back at Trump's insistence that he was a king, which lead to...

#19 - OUR FINAL CONGESTION PRICING RALLY - NO KINGS

Videos of this rally I organized went viral, popularizing the slogan "No Kings" and the iconography that later became the template for tons of No Kings marches across the country.

#18 - ZOHRAN'S WIN IS A REORDERING OF PUBLIC PRIORITIES.

This will not be the last Zohran related thing on this list of course. We are very proud that our community was one of the first major backers of Zohran and his campaign, back when he was polling at "1% name recognition rounded up" as he liked to put it. And it's clear why we came through for him, delivering his largest demographic (non-drivers.)

#17 - THERE IS NO POINT IN TRYING TO APPEASE CAR KARENS

Many people still do not realize that the bike lanes and bike boulevards that the city is currently building are ALSO car infrastructure. They are attempts to still preserve all the space and access cars have everywhere in the city while squeezing a little bike lane stuff in around the margins. This is why it is so grotesque to have people fight against this tiny marginal amount of space given to micromobility and pedestrians.

#16 - WHAT A BIKER HITTING A PEDESTRIAN ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Opponets of infrastructure to make our streets safer often cite an imaginary threat from bikes. But the actual data on injuries and deaths of course shows that almost all the damage done on our streets is done by cars and trucks. Let's see what a bike on pedestrian crash typically looks like.

#15 and #14 - CONSERVATIVE PROPAGANDA ON CITIES vs REALITY

I'm extremely tired of hearing how NYC and other American cities are war zones or shit holes or whatever nonsense FOX News is pushing. The actual reality couldn't be more different.

#13 - ADAMS RIPS OUT THE BEDFORD BIKE LANE

This was one of the most awful things to happen in '25, the first bike lane to be ripped out in NYC in 16 years.Widely understood to be an attempt to curry votes from the Hasidic community in Williamsburg, who spent months spreading propaganda about the dangers of the bike lane, this shameful episode was just the latest in a long line of corrupt Eric Adams deals regarding bike lanes.

#12 - COURT STREET IMPLEMENTED

This project was also targeted by the forces fighting against safer streets and alternatives to cars. It was the second use of what looks to be a new strategy to fight against safer streets: finding a handful of suburbanites who own businesses nearby to sue and clog up the process. This new technique was pioneered by the same lawyer and people behind the next episode on our list:

#11 - 31st STREET FIGHT

This one is personal to me, and not just because the plaintiffs that sued also sent me a cease and desist threatening to sue me for organizing a boycott against them. This fight targeted my neighborhood, and has frozen a horrible, extremely dangerous street in a place of stasis until a ruling pausing construction on the bike lane can be appealed.

#11 - 31st AVE PHASE 2 COMPLETED

Contrast the 31st Street fight with this street it intersects with (and one of the greatest wins of the year.)

#10 - GREEN WAVES

Green Wave signal timing is simply retiming the lights to give you a never-ending series of greens if you maintain the target speed. In this case, they have been timed for micromobility at 15mph, and the results are wild. This is how you eliminate micromobility red light running (because the path of least resistance is to sync with the lights) and make the city infinitely safer for pedestrians and riders by slowing down cars.

#9 - MORE GREEN WAVES

I actually made about a dozen videos on green waves this year, that's how excited for them I am. They have the potential to change everything.

#8 and #7 - PARIS SCHOOL STREETS

I was lucky enough to witness the legendary transformation of Paris' streets. Even conservatives that initially fought bitterly against the "school streets" program have now come around and support the massive roll out changing the City of Light.Zohran has promised to do the same here in NYC:

#6 - CAR FREE BROADWAY

This one is just a crowd pleaser. But it does go to show... the more you remove cars and car parking the better a street gets.

#5 - SUMMER STREETS

For a few days a year we see how great the city could be if everyone felt safe riding micromobility on the streets.

#4 - DAYLIGHTING CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

While the daylighting bill in the Council ultimately did not pass, we continue the fight, and I checked in on the intersection where it all started after the tragic death of a 7 year old in Astoria.

#3 - CONGESTION PRICING STARTS, TRAFFIC DISAPPEARS

The whole world took notice of this one.In true congestion pricing circus fashion, our movement celebrated the moment the cameras were turned on with a wild midnight event

#2 - ZOHRAN RACES THE BUS

Instead of just talking about building a better city focused around transit and micromobility, Zohran walks the walk. Fast.

#1 - ZOHRAN, ME, AND CRACKHEAD BARNEY.

I truly think this video explains why Zohran won better than anything else I have seen. It's also a story the traditional media wouldn't be able to tell. It truly does explain why he resonated with so many New Yorkers across every demographic.

And that's a wrap.MicromobilityNYC has gained about 17,000 members this year, up to about 39,000 at year's end.

Here is a bonus recap of the year in video form:

See you in 2026
